This is a ‘bigger-bang’ reform than acknowledged. Most believe Ag reforms are dependent on the states & the APMC. But the govt. has used the fact that distribution is on the concurrent list to allow farmers direct access to customers.(1/3)

Farming Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Ordinance, 2020 will nurture an eco-system where farmers as well as traders will have more flexibility. It would ensure barrier-free inter-state, intra-state trade and commerce even outside APMC notified markets.

PM suggested that direct marketing for farm produce can be incentivised to prevent crowding in mandis, for which model APMC laws should be reformed swiftly. Such steps will help farmers sell products at their doorstep: PMO on PM's video-conference with CMs
