The forecast for the Yazoo Backwater area has increased to a crest between 92-93'. The water is currently at 92.11'. At 92.5', approximately 354,000 acres will be inundated in the South MS Delta. The Steele Bayou gates are predicted to re-open around the first of February.
Yazoo Backwater Update: The Steele Bayou gates closed again this morning. The backwater is forecast to crest between 98.0-98.5 ft. The Mississippi River at Greenville only needs 5 more days to break the record for consecutive days above flood stage (which it will easily do).
A flash flood warning has been issued for the Yazoo backwater area until 845 am. Heavy rain is moving over areas where widespread flooding is already ongoing and may lead to additional flooding. Turn around, don’t drown!
