Special delivery! On Tuesday, one of the new Orange Line cars was shipped from Wellington Yard in Medford to our Red Line yard in South Boston. The car will be used to train operators on the new car type. Learn more at:
Wellington’s maintenance facility was built in the ‘70s & needed modernizing. We completed installation of 4 new bridge cranes & a new hoist with more service bays & new diagnostic equipment to come. The Wellington Yard is also getting new track, power, signals, & repair tech.
Since we’ll be increasing the number of cars in our Orange Line fleet to 152, we recently completed the addition of six brand new storage tracks at Wellington. The new tracks help us move trains through the yard and help with storing trains when they’re not in service.
Wellington Yard & Maintenance Facility is where the Orange Line’s cars are stored and maintained. And, in order to accommodate a whole new fleet, we’re expanding the yard, and expanding and renovating the maintenance facility. This expansion has a few different components:
