Here's what went down at the Miss Universe parade in Joburg: South Africans came out in their numbers on the streets of Johannesburg to get a glimpse of SA's sweetheart Zozibini Tunzi at her Miss Universe homecoming victory parade on Thursday morning.
Miss South Africa won Miss Universe, the first Black winner in 8 years. Zozibini Tunzi said: "I grew up in a world where a woman who looks like me, with my kind of skin and my kind of hair, was never considered to be beautiful. I think it is time that that stops today."
For the first time, all five top beauty pageant winners are all women of color. “I think black women need this. It’s a symbol,” says Miss America Nia Franklin on @NewDay . “We cannot be what we cannot see,” added Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi.
