Mattis to MTP one why he isn't more outspoken on Trump: "This would be the worst time, I think, for military people to step out like that. But also, the Constitution, I think, is a very hearty document. I've got a love affair with the U.S. Constitution ... We all need it today."

President Trump abused his power, to work with foreigners to smear a political enemy. I know many of my Republican colleagues are outraged by this behavior. They must do the right thing, for the Constitution and the rule of law.

Trump says: "I have the absolute right... to ask other countries for dirt on Biden. to end birth-right citizenship. to shut the border. to prevent all officials from complying with subpoenas. to pardon myself. to do whatever I want. [Constitution says he's wrong.]

@JRubinBlogger  @AaronBlakeT  @JohnJHarwoodhere  is no Omertà for US officials. Especially when an oath to the Constitution and a simple sense of duty obligates them to speak out when a threat like Trump arises.

Former Obama national security adviser Susan Rice on GOP speaking out against Pres. Trump pulling troops from Syria: “I’m glad that they stood up to defend our ally and partner, the Kurds. I wish they’d stand up to defend our constitution.”

We cannot have a president who is above the law. Trump has proven he does not care about upholding the oath he took to preserve and protect the Constitution and the United States. We must hold Trump accountable. #TrumpImpeachment

News reports everything as Democrats vs Republicans. This makes me angry, because some things, like the president ignoring the Constitution, are not partisan. Yes, the Democrats are on the right side of this one, but so are honorable Republicans. It's Trump v the Constitution.

@mtomasky : "If they can get away with it, Trump and the Republican Party are going to stage a coup to nullify the Constitution and the election — and if you’re rolling your eyes right now, you are the naïve one, and you’d better wake up"

We cannot have a president who is above the law. Trump has proven he does not care about upholding the oath he took to preserve and protect the Constitution and the United States. We must hold Trump accountable. #TrumpImpeachment

TRUMP: "Adam should be Impeached!" — tweet Tuesday. THE FACTS: There's no danger that Adam Schiff will be impeached himself. That's because House members cannot be impeached under the Constitution.

The fact that the @HouseGOP ’s loyalty is to Trump and not to the Constitution is not going to slow down or impair our ability to keep the republic our Founders envisioned. #TruthExposed

‘The president, aided and abetted by the attorney general, tears at the very fabric of our Constitution.’ —  listed all of Trump’s misdeeds and it is jaw-dropping

The presidential oath of office requires the President of the United States to do two things: Faithfully execute his or her office, and protect and defend the Constitution. The whistleblower complaint and call record provide the most graphic evidence yet Trump has done neither.

Here’s my message to House Republicans: Wake up. Do your job. You swore an oath to the Constitution, not to this President. Your job is oversight, not to help Trump’s legal defense. These attacks on our justice system must end.

“Congress cannot Impeach President Trump (did nothing wrong) because if they did they would be putting themselves above the law. The Constitution provides criteria for Impeachment - treason, bribery, high crimes & misdemeanors. Unless there is compelling evidence, Impeachment...

Well, at least Trump is consistent. Abroad, he has never met a leader of an authoritarian nation (Russia, China, Saudi Arabia, Philippines) that he hasn't liked. At home he shows contempt for the U.S. Constitution and democracy.

All Americans who respect the Constitution, get ready for the big, big fight! Trump declares FAKE emergency, stealing previously appropriated funds from DOD, Mil. Con., & Treasury. Let's go, join me! People power can stop him!

Whenever I see President Trump rail against "Fake News" or call us the "enemy of the people" I think "you can't handle the truth." You may not like it, but the press is protected by the Constitution (you know that document you swore to preserve, protect, and defend?)

The search warrant for Michael Cohen’s office was sought by a US Attorney appointed by the President and approved by a judge. That’s no witch hunt. That’s the rule of law. As Trump floats firing Mueller, all Members must speak out — or stop feigning devotion to the Constitution.
