Days before U.S. President #DonaldTrump ’s visit to India, four Senators have written to U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo asking for an assessment of the situation in Kashmir as well as the #CAA  and #NRC .

As Pompeo met with Ukrainians inside the US Embassy in Kyiv, we came across this photo of Amb. Marie Yovanovitch w/ US senators McCain, Graham & Klobuchar. They visited Ukrainian troops fighting Russian-backed insurgents. Pompeo helped Trump oust Yovanovitch.

Menendez/Dem senators to Pompeo: “Instead of calling journalists ‘liars’ and insulting their intelligence when they ask you hard questions you would rather not answer, your oath of office places on you a duty and obligation to engage respectfully and transparently.”

Senators Mendendez, Tim Kaine, Booker, Markey, Merkley chastise Pompeo in letter: “At a time when journalists around the world are being jailed for their reporting...your insulting & contemptuous comments are beneath the office of the Secretary of State.”

I’m glad that the administration will hold an all-senators briefing on Wednesday on recent events with Iran. It will be led by Secretary of Defense Esper, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Milley, Secretary of State Pompeo, and CIA Director Haspel.

These are the three Republican senators who are retiring next year. These are the three guys who don’t even have anything theoretical to lose. They could band together and demand to hear from John Bolton, and Mick Mulvaney, and Mike Pompeo.

Senators should reject Mike Pompeo’s nomination to be Secretary of State. He denies the climate crisis, and has been doing the bidding for fossil fuel interests his whole career. The American people deserve better.
