McConnell does not want this debate over the trial's rules to go into tomorrow. Schumer does not want to back down and take a pass on forcing any of his votes. The arguments are getting repetitive and the amendments are similar. Let's see if they can come to a modest agreement

‘If the president is so confident in his case, then why won’t he present it?’ — Sen. Chuck Schumer blasted GOP efforts to ‘rush’ and hide the Trump impeachment trial with McConnell’s unconventional rules

Members of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's own party disagreed with his first draft of rules proposed for the impeachment trial. So the Kentucky Republican did something he doesn't have to do often: change his plan.

Amendment five from Democrats to the rules package will be a subpoena for DOD documents related to Ukraine. That should also be defeated on a party line vote.

White House Counsel Pat Cipollone seemingly not pleased with the course of today's debate on the trial rules. "Seriously. Can we please start?"

There were changes made by the GOP to the original impeachment rules proposal. As you can see, they were hand written changes

The first full day of the Senate impeachment trial included heated arguments over Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's Senate rules resolution and rejection of a proposed amendment to the rules. Watch what you missed:

President Trump’s impeachment trial formally opened in the Senate with McConnell making last-minute changes to the ground rules, which could still allow the proceedings to wrap up within days.

Cipollone just now called for an end to today's proceedings and a vote on the rules resolution, saying, "If we keep going like this, it'll be next week." GOP side of the aisle loved the line, eliciting chuckles from Cornyn, Barrasso. McConnell looked amused.

White House legislative liaison Eric Ueland said the White House was supportive of the late changes to the Republican resolution on the trial rules

I’m surprised the NRA was affiliated with car rental companies at all, considering Hertz and Avis enforce tyrannical rules like "age restrictions" and "having a license."
