🎶 I'm a survivor, I'm gonna make it 🎶 The later years of Noltland Castle’s history were tumultuous! The #Orkney castle was seized by Lord Robert Stewart in 1572. In the 1650s it was fired by the covenanters & in 1745 it was set on fire by Hanoverian forces!
In the summer of 1614, the Palace of Birsay, Kirkwall Castle, Kirkwall Cathedral and the Earl's Palace were all seized during a rebellion led by Robert Stewart, son of Patrick Stewart, 2nd Earl of Orkney. Read the whole story on our Facebook page:

On this day in 1984, astronauts Bruce McCandless and Robert Stewart became the first human satellites as they flew freely and untethered outside the space shuttle Challenger. Watch our report from that evening.
The astronaut #Classof78 also included the first active duty officer selected as an astronaut, Robert Stewart. He and Bruce McCandless test flew the MMU (Manned Maneuvering Unit) on STS-41B (Stewart below). He also flew on the maiden mission of Shuttle Atlantis (STS-51J).
