The Reverend Joseph Lowery, the longtime civil rights leader who co-founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, died on Friday at the age of 98.

"Help us to make choices on the side of love, not hate; on the side of inclusion, not exclusion; tolerance, not intolerance." Reverend Joseph Lowery dedicated his life to fighting racism and inequality as an activist, an organizer, and a leader of the civil rights movement.

Rev. Joseph Lowery was one of the heroes of the Civil Rights Movement, and one of my heroes. He had an amazing sense of humor, and his leadership helped us get to the mountaintop. Thank you, Reverend.
