Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil has announced that the Northern Pulp mill must stop pumping effluent by Jan. 31st 2020. The mill has announced it will shut down.

Downtown Halifax shut down by protesting forestry workers. They’re concerned the provincial government plans to reject a proposal to allow Northern Pulp to continue pumping toxic effluent into Boat Harbour, effectively closing the mill and affecting 11,000 jobs.
