How Chagall's Daughter Smuggled His Work out of Nazi-Occupied Europe @K_Chernick  - @artsy )

The only real winners were the Communists, who ended up annexing half Europe and yet who, despite the abominations they carried out, are somehow regarded as being morally superior to their Nazi allies.

80 years ago today, Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union changed Europe's borders in secret. #MolotovRibbentrop80

weirdest responses I've got so far to my article: those insisting the (Christian) far right in Europe never attack Jewish people. Aside from being untrue, huh? You're SERIOUSLY telling me "how can you say the rise of Nazi parties in Germany is any sort of threat to Jews?"

It has been 80 years since Nazi Germany invaded Poland, sparking a conflict that wreaked devastation across Europe.

A far-right party scored its strongest-ever results in two key state elections in eastern Germany, finishing second behind the country's major parties on the same day that Europe marked the 80th anniversary of the Nazi invasion of Poland

Now 80 years after the start of the war, Europe nations grapple with their past, turning Nazi collaborators into national heroes

Dr. Liane Russell escaped Nazi Europe and shined a light on the dangers of X-rays for embryos. That important work made her one of the most distinguished scientists of her era. She passed away in July at age 95. @WillieGeist  remembers a #LifeWellLived .

RIP Liane Russell, refugee from Nazi Europe who demonstrated the importance of shielding embryos from radiation. By @EmilyLangerWP  on @postobits

On D-Day, 75 years ago, thousands of young soldiers gave their lives to help rescue Europe from Nazi rule. Today two veterans aged 95 and 94 parachuted into Normandy, France, just as they did in 1944, to honour those who paid the ultimate sacrifice

75 years ago at Normandy, the United States and its allies led the largest land invasion in history to help free Europe from Nazi barbarism. We will never forget the young people who gave their lives. We honor them by working toward a world of freedom, dignity and peace for all.

On #DDay75thAnniversary , we remember the sacrifices of American and Allied troops to liberate Europe from the Nazi regime. We also remember that America is strong, but we are even stronger when we work with our allies to build a more peaceful world. #DDay75

Just yards from Omaha Beach, President Trump paid tribute to the 160,000 American soldiers and Allied forces who stormed the beaches during D-Day—a moment that foretold the end of Nazi occupation in Europe and forever changed the course of history. #DDay75

“We remember the heroes who laid down their lives to rescue civilization itself on June 6th, 1944. Tens of thousands of young warriors left these shores by the sea & air to begin the invasion of Normandy & the liberation of Europe & the brutal Nazi occupation.” - @realDonaldTrump

#OTD , 8 May 1945, Nazi Germany surrendered to the allied forces, signifying the end of World War II in Europe #VEDay

If I’m remembering my Third Reich history correctly, I think the first use of the term “final solution” was in a memo describing an initial plan to expel all the Jews from Europe. Other than that great argument why you’re not a Nazi!

today is holocaust remembrance day. Nazi secret police took people of my faith to death camps across eastern Europe. Families were destroyed. a generation of Jews died. The FBI raid was actually nothing at all like Nazi secret police.
