Two British oil tankers, the Stena Impero and Mesdar, changed direction sharply after entering the Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz, taking up a course toward Iran. Refinitiv data later showed Mesdar changing direction again heading back into the Gulf.
Armed guards have left the British-operated and Liberian-flagged MV Mesdar, and the ship was allowed to proceed "safe and well," the ship's manager says. The British-owned Stena Impero is still out of contact, its owner says.
Mesdar is back under way. Crew safe and well. Briefly boarded by “armed guards” but now free to leave, according to Norbulk Shipping UK. Bit of a mystery.
The "Mesdar " *is* #UK -owned. If it's confirmed the "Mesdar " has also been intercepted & taken in by the #IRGC , then we're in very dangerous territory. That'd be x2 #British tankers seized by #Iran within hours of each other. Hard not to see this forcing a response.
Iran has seized a second tanker, the Liberian-flagged MV Mesdar, according to a US official. The order of seizure of this one and the British-flagged tanker isn't clear at this time.
