HRW: Ankara Denying Water to Syrian Kurds as Coronavirus Escalates

Syria's Kurds have been concerned for some time that Turkey's plans in the region include more than acquiring oil fields

@KaderAriz  I don't speak any Kurdish dialect alas.Nor do many Kurds in Turkey because of assimilation policies/state bans on Kurdish language education. I certainly wouldn't call myself an "expert " on anything. But I can say with some degree of confidence that I feel competent on the issue.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was accused by aid and rights groups on Wednesday of risking lives during the #coronavirus  pandemic by restricting water supplies to nearly half-a-million Kurds in northeast Syria.

Massive attacks underway against the kurds in northern syria. No ceasefire. Total nonsenses there is. US military officials tell me they are ashamed, “sickened.” It’s cold now outside. What about the families, and kids, out of their homes? @OARichardEngel  #AmericanBetrayal

Turkey’s conflict in Syria took a major turn today. First alleged atrocities by Turkish-backed Arab militias, executing Kurds. US military officials tell me it's true, and they are DEEPLY concerned it opens the door to BOTH ethnic cleansing of Kurds and return of ISIS/Al-Qaeda

Let us be clear: The president has sided with authoritarian leaders of Turkey and Russia over our loyal allies and America’s own interests. His decision is a sickening betrayal both of the Kurds and his oath of office.

(1) turkey wants to push the kurds out of that part of syria. (2) trump gives ‘em the OK to invade. (3) pence brokers a “deal” in which the kurds... must get out of that part of syria. (4) the US agrees to un-sanction turkey. that’s a “deal” like being mugged is a deal.

US officials tell me ALARM BELL RINGING among diplomats in DC that U.S. could one day be held responsible for Crimes Against Humanity for ethnic cleansing of Kurds'>Syrian Kurds by opening the door to it, watching it, encouraging it (Trump's tweets and statements) and not stopping it.

The more I talk talk to sources, the more i’m hearing America’s betrayal of the Kurds, and the humiliation, “misogynistic” “squashing” of US ambassador in Ukraine for political motivations makes people think, we, Americans, have become the “bad guys.” Hearing it was gut punch.

Turkish state-backed media hails a “successful operation” to “neutralize” an unarmed 35-year old woman working to unite Arabs, Christians, and Kurds in NE Syria. Ms. Hevrin Khalef was reportedly dragged from a vehicle and shot to death. That’s a war crime.

The U.S. convinced the Kurds to destroy ISIS for us, causing massive Kurd casualties. Then we conned the Kurds into dismantling their defenses, promising to protect them. Now Trump invites the Turks into Syria, green lighting them to wipe out the Kurds. Positively sinister.

The kurds lost their homeland in Syria which they fought for with US forces in the battle agaist Isis, losing 11 thousand of their men and women. Tonight they were sold out by Trump who says he saved millions of lives. It will be remembered by the kurds as the greatest betrayal.
