One year ago today, Washington Post Opinions columnist Jamal Khashoggi entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. He was never seen again.

Today I am thinking of Jamal Khashoggi. I think of him many days, and the other reporters who have been killed, detained, harmed and harassed for shining the light of truth and accountability on those who wish their actions can lurk in darkness.

The President’s praise for MBS, the man who US intel says ordered or authorized the heinous murder of a WaPo columnist & Saudi dissident, sends the wrong message to the world. It’s past time for Congress & the administration to impose sanctions for the murder of Jamal Khashoggi.

Trump took Vladimir Putin at his word on Russian election interference. He took MBS at his word over the brutal murder of Jamal Khashoggi. And today in Hanoi he took Kim Jong Un at his word over the death of Otto Warmbier.

Every single Senator across both parties just joined together to condemn the murder of journalist and U.S. resident Jamal Khashoggi and hold Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman responsible. President can no longer ignore this egregious murder.

Looking at President Trump's reaction to the CIA's stunning conclusion that Jamal Khashoggi was murdered at the direction of the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, one can't help but wonder what debt (monetary and otherwise) the President and his family may have with the Saudis.

INTERESTING TIMING: A member of the Saudi Royal Air Force who was one of the 15 Saudis allegedly involved in the killing of JAMAL KHASHOGGI has died in a car accident in Riyadh, according to a Turkish media report.
