Iranians are treating their health workers as courageous worriers on the frontlines of a deadly war. This is a popular song from the Iran-Iraq war that describes how soldiers left and perished - now it’s used for health workers.

Iran is ravaged by coronavirus with 47,500 cases and 3,160 deaths. Experts say the real number of cases are much higher. Researchers at Sharif University say in the worst case scenario up to 3.5 million Iranians could die of the virus at the peak of the pandemic in late May.

Helping Iran contain the virus is in the interest of Iranians and millions of their neighbors in countries where wars have destroyed health systems. Some of Iran’s neighbors, Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, understood this and rushed to help with financial assistance and humanitarian aid.
