Aged 23, before she’d even earned her PhD, Greider'>Carol Greider made her #NobelPrize  discovery. Along with laureate Elizabeth Blackburn she discovered telomerase. At each end of a chromosome lies a protective "cap" called a telomere – telomerase is the enzyme that creates it.

When I got hired at Politico, Bill sat me down and told me straight up “they are gonna fire you in 6-12 months, but you could shake some things up and open minds while you’re down there. Greider loved shaking up the media establishment - he always encouraged me to do so too!

Happy birthday Elizabeth Blackburn! Born 71 years ago in Tasmania, Australia, Blackburn shared the Medicine Prize in 2009 with Carol Greider and Jack Szostak. It was the first time in #NobelPrize  history that a scientific prize was awarded to two women.

BillGreider was a brilliant and big-hearted journalist, for the Post, for Rolling Stone, for The Nation. He reported tirelessly, wrote elegantly and did everything with passion and conviction, a voice now lost to all of us. He taught me so much. RIP, Bill.
