Mercy University Hospital in Cork has confirmed that it is treating three in-patients who have tested positive for Covid-19. All three are associated with travel to an affected region, and are understood to have returned from a trip abroad together.

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre says two new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed. One case involves a woman in the east of the country, the other is a man in the south and is associated with the Bon Secours Hospital, Cork. A risk assessment is underway there.

The HSE's National Director of Acute Operations has said that more than 60 staff at Cork University Hospital have been asked to self isolate following the identification of a case of community transmission of Covid-19 at the hospital
