Today, the Charleston Loophole still exists. In fact, from 2014-2018 it allowed gun dealers to sell more than 20,000 guns to people like the Charleston shooter who never would have had access to guns if politicians like Bernie hadn’t backed down to the NRA.

In 2015, a white supremacist murdered nine innocent people in a church. He was able to get his hands on a gun only because of a loophole in the law that’s now called the “Charleston Loophole.” Bernie Sanders voted to create this loophole.

In 2015, this loophole helped a white-supremacist with a criminal record buy a gun he then used to kill nine people in a predominantly Black church in Charleston.

The former VP's been ramping up his criticism of Sen. Bernie Sanders' record on guns, particularly his vote for the so-called 'Charleston Loophole,' which lets gun buyers skip a complete background check if the process takes longer than three days.

This February, the House passed bipartisan legislation to close the "Charleston Loophole" and extend the time for gun background check processing. This lifesaving bill - like so many others - is still sitting on Sen. McConnell's desk. It's time for the Senate to act.

My Charleston Loophole legislation would give the FBI more time to process background checks so that dangerous people like the Emanuel AME shooter wouldn’t be able to access guns. Senator McConnell must stop delaying and bring it to a vote.

Klobuchar is very wrong here. First, re the TX murderer, the background check system WORKED, he was denied, which is why he went to black market. 2nd, Charleston was literally human paperwork error only discovered after massacre. 3rd, there is no loophole:

Four years ago, nine people were killed in a hate crime at a church in Charleston. The House has since passed a bill to close the “Charleston loophole” that allowed the shooter to buy a gun without completing a background check. The Senate must do the same.

Unless we elect a President that will stand up to the gun lobby, nothing will change. As President, I will fight for universal background checks, closing the Charleston loophole, and an assault weapons ban.
