RIP Wing Cdr Paul Farnes, 101. The last surviving WW2 Battle of Britain ace pilot. A humble hero whose unbelievable courage & fortitude helped win us all the freedom we enjoy today. What a debt we owe The Few. Thank you, Sir. 🙏
Today, 15th September, is #Battleof BritainDay. We remember “the Few” – the aircrew from Britain and the 574 aircrew from other nations – who successfully defended the skies over the UK during the Battle of Britain in 1940.
Flying the Spitfire to honour Battle of Britain veterans. Thought of those young pilots the whole time.
It is with great sadness that we hear one of ‘The Few’, Sqn Ldr Geoffrey Wellum DFC, passed away on Wednesday evening. Geoffrey was the youngest Battle of Britain Spitfire pilot and an inspiration to the RAF today. RIP Per Ardua Ad Astra
The Queen gave a speech on the forecourt at Buckingham Palace. "I remember the Battle of Britain being fought in the skies above us, and we shall never forget the courage and sacrifice of that time." #RAF100
