Breaking Scoops

It’s important to check in with loved ones during this difficult time. We are continuing to practice social distancing, but that doesn’t mean we should practice emotional distancing. No one should feel alone while we work towards defeating this virus.

How many police officers does it take to arrest a homeless black man for stealing food from a grocery store? 12. 6 cars. Guns were drawn. I yelled "Happy Thanksgiving" to them while shaking my head as I passed them in the parking lot.

We're not involved in this event, but many of you may be interested in it. The third Naturally Latinos Conference, presented by Audubon Naturalist Society, will be held virtually from Wednesday, 12/2, to Friday, 12/4. Information and registration at

GOOD NEWS: Last week, a federal court ruled that a jury was right in holding Smithfield responsible for creating a nuisance for a community in the vicinity of a pig growing facility in North Carolina.

The career of Marian Wright Edelman — who was this year's recipient of the ABA’s Thurgood Marshall Award — draws an illuminating throughline between the fervent activism of the 1960s and the fight that must still continue today:

Sometimes I just...fucking...AMAZE myself.

There have been over 12 million coronavirus cases in the United States. For your safety and the safety of those around you, please continue to practice social distancing and wear a mask. We will get through this together.

We're so close to an era with mass testing, therapeutics and several vaccines -> why risk getting infected & infecting others over the holidays? Delaying by a few months is perfectly rational given solutions within sight in the Spring. We've been in this for 10 months already.

We’re pleased to announced that our Rail to Refuge scheme, which enables survivors of domestic abuse to travel to refuge for free, is being extended until the end of March 2021, thanks to the generosity of the @RailDeliveryGrp  More info➡️

This painting by the multi-talented Jack Bender (LOST, UNDER THE DOME, MR. MERCEDES). It explains perfectly why Trump won't--can't--give up, even though it's hurting his country.

Scoops of the Week

We’re excited to announce that we’ve been nominated as one of the #MTVPUSH  UK & IRE acts for 2021! @MTVUK

Enough is enough. Trump lost and a smooth, peaceful transition is one of the hallmarks of our democracy. @USGSA  and @GSAEmily  need to acknowledge Joe Biden as President-Elect so we can start moving our nation forward.

There's a big difference between "want" and "need."   Donald Trump wants to have won the election. Americans need COVID relief.   See the difference?

A note from abroad: Realizing now that I've been 5 days out of US that many folks back home don't realize how other countries might be living with the 'Rona. Here is what it was like to come to Taiwan. I think we could maybe learn a coupla things... /1 #COVID

Instead of working to pass much-needed relief to help the people of this country get through the pandemic, @senatemajldr  sent the Senate home. This is shameful—and I'll keep fighting to get families, communities, and businesses the support they need.

Our workers and small businesses are the lifeblood of this nation and they can’t wait any longer. My colleagues on the Republican side need to join us in passing legislation that will help workers, small businesses and families get through this pandemic.

This is a line for a food bank in Dallas. Congress has decided to leave millions of Americans to suffer and die.

Freedom of expression online and offline is fully protected by Section 39 of the Nigerian Constitution 1999 [as amended]. Threatening to regulate the social media to block Nigerians from exercising their human rights and criticizing the government is blatantly UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

Donald Trump’s final act as president may be his most damaging. The President and his team are making wild claims without evidence, which won’t change the result but do undermine confidence in our elections and threaten the promise of American democracy.

MA & our country already had a public health crisis before COVID: the opioid epidemic. Overdose numbers among Black & Latinx residents are especially alarming. And new data show the crisis has only gotten worse during the pandemic. We need to do something.
